Here is a list of what some of them have been telling us about playing MovSynth:

• on stage, with a desk lamp near them to control the light input, tablet on a stand, playing with hands above tablet
• at parties, phone stood in a discrete location, to surprise guests as they walk past (and get them interested in creating music!)
• with young children, to play simple melodies and develop a sense of spacial and musical awareness (hopefully!)
• for ear training, playing with closed eyes, guess the note then look at the screen to check which cell is highlighted
• for songwriting, to remove the restrictions of finger memory (from years of playing and writing on the piano or guitar) for creating melodies
• for improvisation and experimentation, playing with full body at a distance of 1 to 2 metres

This update brings bug fixes, notably for those phones with high resolution front cameras (such as the Nexus 4 and HTC One S), as well as minor improvements to the UI.

This update brings two major new features:

- you can now create your own palettes. For those of you new to the app, a palette is a grid representing what note gets played depending on where the movement was detected.

- improvements to the algorithm to detect movements. This reduces changes that “parasite” movements will be detected and assumed to be “real” movements. Of course, still beware of strong shadows, particularly if you have a strong light behind you, but this new algorithm is able to deal with lighter shadows.

There are also a few small improvements and some bug fixes.
